Orton Mere and Meadows

Pictures:
About:

(Content courtesy of the Nene Park Trust)

Located close to Ferry Meadows, Orton Mere is a small pocket park that is popular with local picnic-goers.

The small, reed fringed lake of Orton Mere, popular with anglers, is a remnant of one of the city's former industries; it was once used as a slurry settling pool for the large suger beet factory that used to operate from a site further down Oundle road.

Adjacent to Orton Mere is Orton Meadows, which is the site of a series of lakes created by gravel extraction. Osier Lake is used by Peterborough Model Boat Club, and the large Silver Lake is used by the Nene Valley Ospreys for still water trout fishing. The greens surrounding the lake form part of the Orton Meadows Golf Course.

Nene Valley Railway has a station and cafe at Orton Mere, where you can catch a train to Wansford or into the city.
