Stanground Lode Corridor

Habitat management has been carried out during the last two years along the course of the Stanground Lode between Hampton Vale and Crown Lakes Country Park. Work has focused on removing dense scrub beside the Lode to allow more light in that will benefit wildlife by encouraging more aquatic plants to grow. This will help species such as water voles as well as many insects including dragonflies and water beetles. This work will also help to make the Lode a more impressive feature of the local landscape.

By opening up areas of this dense scrub, birds are benefiting from the more diverse habitat and several new bird boxes have been installed along the stream.
Many trees and shrubs are being retained for wildlife and the hedgerow has been left as it is a known corridor for several species of bat that are found in the area.

Away from the stream areas of flower-rich grassland are benefiting from clearance of scrub to prevent them being shaded out.
